Applying artificial intelligence to the emerging market of autonomous vehicles, Drive.ai was formed in 2016 by a group of Stanford University AI alumni. They create autonomous vehicle software, believing that it will be a positive contribution to the future of the transportation industry, and the company has a strong focus on improving road safety.
Utilising the techniques of deep learning (an advanced model of machine learning, where systems are able to formulate their own rules beyond those embedded in programming), Drive.ai are developing software for self-driving cars which will learn and integrate the potential for endlessly variable human behaviour in their immediate environment.
Drive.ai are using their deep learning methods to create a system enabling the driver-less car to communicate with pedestrians via an external screen, to allow interactions such as letting someone know that it is safe for them to cross a road. Several other products and ideas are in development, including hardware which can be retrofit to vehicles to enable self-driving, potentially offering a way for delivery or taxi fleets to operate services along specified routes.
